From mining to recycling: electronic products and their impacts
октомври 16 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Smartphones, laptops and other electronic devices have become omnipresent in our society. With an expected annual growth of 9.6 % between 2017 and 2022 Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is one of the fastest growing industries. While everybody knows ICT brands, many people are not aware of the situation in the electronics supply chains. Lacking transparency and huge impacts on environment and people, human rights and labour rights are breached every day.
During this event Bori from Za Zemiata will shed some light on the impacts that the different stages of the electronics supply chain have on nature, on the social-cultural dynamics in affected communities, on workers rights.
In addition, Anna Shahnazaryan, an Armenian environmental activist, will speak about her anti-mining advocacy. She is an advocate for empowering communities to stand against local and transnational mining companies as a measure to protect their right to say no to disastrous mining in their environment.
